Note that if there is a master code for the game, you may or may not need to use it. If you get a blank screen and/or the game won't run, you'll need the master code. The master code bypasses the checksum routine. NOTES: Games below with an asterisk "*" are located towards the bottom of this doc in the "Semi" Universal code section (section 2). Games with a pound sign "#" are listed in sections 1 and 2 (in this case, either code will work). INDEX: -Aah! AACA-AR86 + AKMT-AA6W + AJTA-AA20 Lets you play the PAL (E) version on a US Genesis console. Must also use master code below. RYBA-E61A Lets you play the European/PAL cartridge on a Japanese Mega drive. NOTE: There are some 50/60 hz compatibility issues, but the game is playable. The issues are: - screen flickers in top part in all the game except non-3D screens (options, course select, record lists, etc.); - music plays way too fast; - voices are distorted when listening to them in options screen and don't play at all during gameplay; - the same goes for sound effects except the sound of your own engine. ------------------------------------------------ Virtua Racing (U)... RYBA-E61G Lets you play the US cartridge on a Japanese Mega Drive. ------------------------------------------------ -Worms (E)... RHEA-Y60E Lets you play the European/PAL cartridge on a US Genesis console. NOTE: There are a couple 50/60 hz compatibility issues, but the game is 100% playable. Here are the details (thanks to goldenband): - The screen doesn't roll on my CRT. - The title screen music plays at normal speed. - The gameplay is somewhat accelerated (I assume by 20%), though not objectionably so -- it's still completely playable, and might even benefit from it. - However, the digitzed sound effects during gameplay are messed up. Some are missing, some are garbled, and some are slightly distorted. ========================================================================== ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ========================================================================== Section 2: "Semi" Universal Regional Lockout Bypass Codes... If the game that you want regional bypass codes for isn't listed above, try the codes below. If you have a game cartridge from a different region and it won't play on your console, the codes below MIGHT allow you to bypass the regional lockout. The codes below will *NOT* work in many cases. All these codes do is change the country ID letter in the Genesis ROM header, but not all games use that letter to determine the region. EAAT-BL1T "USA" (U). This code will make some non USA cartridges work on a USA Genesis console. Try this code if you have a US Genesis console. EAAT-AL1T "Europe" (E). This code will make some non European cartridges work on a European Mega Drive console. Try this code if you have a European Mega Drive. EAAT-AY1T "Japan" (J). This code will make some non Japanese cartridges work on a Japanese Mega Drive console. Try this code if you have a Japanese Mega Drive. Note that on some games, this code will only work on Japan "NTSC" systems, and not Japan/Hong Kong "PAL/50hz" systems. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Here's a partial list of games that the codes above will work on... -Aah! Harimanada (J) (tested on an emulator) -Barney's Hide and Seek -Boogerman -Castlevania - Bloodlines (tested on real hardware) -Castlevania - The New Generation (tested on an emulator) -Cheese Cat-Astrophe Starring Speedy Gonzales -Daze Before Christmas (tested on real hardware) -Donald Duck In Maui Mallard -Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story -Earthworm Jim -Earthworm Jim 2 -ECCO - The Tides of Time (tested on real hardware) -Jurassic Park (tested on an emulator) -Megaman the Wily Wars (use with master code / see section 1) -Outrun 2019 (tested on real hardware) -Sonic 3 (tested on real hardware) -Sonic Spinball (tested on real hardware) -Spot Goes to Hollywood -Stimpy's Invention -Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition (use with master code / section 1) -Sub Terrania (tested on real hardware) -Super Street Fighter II (use with master code / see section 1) -X-Men -Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel (tested on real hardware) ========================================================================== ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ========================================================================== Section 3: 50/60 hz compatibility... Here's a partial list of European/PAL 50 hz cartridges that WON'T run properly on a US NTSC 60 hz system (Genesis), even if you use regional bypass codes... -Story of Thor (E) -Toejam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron (E) These games will have music that plays at the wrong speed and/or the screen will keep rolling. Not very playable. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's a partial list of European/PAL 50 hz cartridges that WILL run properly on a US NTSC 60 hz system (Genesis), if you use regional bypass codes... -Daze Before Christmas (E) -ECCO - The Tides of Time (E) -Megaman the Wily Wars (E) -Shining Force II (E) -Soleil (E) -Sonic 3 (E) -Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition (E) -Streets of Rage 2 (JE) -Super Street Fighter II (E) I would assume that the NTSC/60hz versions of these games (above) would run properly on a 50 hz system (with a regional bypass code). -Cool Spot (U) will run properly on 50hz system (if you use the bypass code). -Pac-Man 2 (U) will run properly on 50hz system (if you use the bypass code). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Virtua Racing (E) Will run on a 60 hz NTSC system (J) but has issues. See section 1 above for details. -Worms (E) will run on a 60 hz NTSC Genesis and is 100% playable, but runs a bit fast, and exhibits some sound problems. See section 1 for details. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's a list of cartridges that I *THINK* will run properly on either a 50 hz or 60 hz system if you use regional bypass codes (but I'm not 100% sure)... -Art of Fighting (U) should run on 50hz system (if you use bypass codes) -Shinobi 3 (U) should run on 50hz system (if you use bypass codes) When I say that I'm not 100% sure that these games will work in different regions, all I mean is that I made the codes for someone else and I know the regional bypass codes worked, but I can't remember for sure if they said that the game ran correctly (ie. sometimes when you play a 50hz game on a 60hz system, you'll have fast or slow music and/or a rolling screen). --------------------------------------------------------------------------
